Established over 40 years ago, Tug Malta Limited provides towage services within the harbours and territorial waters of the Maltese islands.

With a fleet of 9 tugs, the Company is also engaged in offshore towage, salvage and wreck removal operations.

Tug Malta is seeking to recruit suitably qualified and experienced Crew to join its seafaring team.  For this purpose the Company invites applications from candidates with the following qualifications:

The Company has an immediate requirement to engage a Marine Superintendent.

The Role:

The Marine Superintendent will be responsible for the towage operations provided by the Company’s fleet of tugs and for the deck department onboard the tugs to ensure that these are properly manned and fully equipped with all the necessary gear.

Key Responsibilities:

  • To monitor the day-to-day running of the Operations Office in order to make sure that towage services within the Maltese Harbours and territorial limits of Malta are provided as and when required and conducted in the most efficient manner.
  • To manage tug crews and maintain a bilateral healthy communication flow and ensuring that discipline on board the Company’s tugs is maintained;
  • To be responsible for the preparation of towing arrangement plans and passage plans for any eventual offshore towing activity;
  • To be responsible for the maintenance carried out onboard the Company’s tugs by the deck department;
  • To supervise and if necessary act as a Master Mariner during salvages and offshore towing operations;
  • To be responsible for maintaining adequate stocks of towing gear both for harbor and offshore towing operations;
  • To monitor the upkeep of navigation charts and publications onboard the Company’s tugs

Qualifications & Experience:

To be considered for this position, applicants must either be Masters with 6 months command experience or Chief Officers with at least 3 years’ experience or at least 2 years ashore as a Marine Superintendent.

The Company has an immediate requirement to engage a Health, Safety, Environment and Quality (HSEQ) Officer to be based at the Company’s Head Office in Floriana.

Reporting to the Marine Superintendent the responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Develop and maintain Health, Safety, Environmental and Quality standards and assuring they are achieved both onboard the tugs and on shore;
  • Maintain certifications of ISM, ISO9001 and ISO14001;
  • Maintain control of all the Tugs’ and Crews’ Certificates;
  • Conduct internal audits for ISO, ISM and Safety and coordinate with external auditors;
  • Participate as a member of the Management Health and Safety Board;
  • Conduct Risk Assessments of the various activities undertaken at the relevant workplaces.

The ideal candidate should have at least 3 years’ experience in a marine oriented industry preferably also with experience in HSEQ and should further possess the following credentials:

  • as a minimum STCW Officer of the Watch Certificate;
  • Company Security Officer, Designated Person Ashore (DPA), ISO / ISM Auditor certificates and
  • Strong organizational, interpersonal skills and people’s management.

Both engineers must be in possession of STCW 95 Certificate of Competency as specified in Section A-III/2 of the STCW Code.  The ideal candidates should have preferably served on board tugs or offshore support vessels.

In the case of the Chief Engineer the certificate must be unlimited and must have served as Chief Engineer for at least twelve (12) months.

The selected candidate will be working within the Technical Department, and will  be responsible to carry out maintenance related to electrical equipment on the company’s tug fleet and on its premises. The selected candidate will be expected to rectify electrical faults and carry out electrical modifications on the tug’s electrical equipment.

The ideal Candidate is expected:

  • to have a Higher Technician Diploma or Higher National Diploma, related to this field
  • to hold Licence A and Licence B
  • to be interested and willing to work on mechanical systems, such as but not limited to, pneumatic, hydraulic systems and air conditioning systems
  • to have previous working experience in a maintenance orgainsation
  • to be well-versed with the types of electrical equipment found on tug boats
  • to be able to work in a team
  • to be self-motivated and have a sense of commitment
  • to be computer literate and ideally familiar with ACAD
  • to have a valid driving licence
