Tug Malta Ltd was contracted in December 2011 by Maersk Drilling of Denmark to tow the jack-up rig Maersk Endurer from Alessandria, Egypt to Limassol, Cyprus.
Tug Malta’s motor tug SPINOLA (BP 81 tons – Built in May 2009) arrived at Abu Qir port on the 22nd December and after moving out the rig from the said port, the voyage to Limassol commenced with SPINOLA and another tug towing the rig. The tugs arrived in Limassol 3 days later and loading operations on the heavy lifter Black Marlin were successfully carried out on 3rd January 2012 after more favourable weather conditions finally permitted such a move.
SPINOLA was off-hire and back to base in Valletta, Malta on 7th January 2012. Maersk Drilling commended the job well done by SPINOLA and all involved.
