The European Tugowners Association (ETA) has announced the appointment of Mario Mizzi as its new Chairman.
Gathering in Athens, Greece between the 13th and 15th May 2015, members of ETA met for the 52nd Annual General Meeting. The event also included a meeting of the Executive Committee and a well-attended conference having ‘Towage in a Global Shipping Context’ as a theme. John E. Sullivan, Chairman and Mario Mizzi, Director and CEO of Tug Malta, represented Malta as a member country of ETA.
At the General Meeting, Members of the Association elected Mario Mizzi as the new Chairman of ETA in succession to Peter Vierstraete, whilst Mr Leendert Muller, the Dutch member from Multraship, was elected Deputy Chairman in lieu of Mario Mizzi who held the latter position for the last two years.
Before joining Tug Malta, Mario Mizzi held various senior advisory and financial roles in the public sector bringing with him a combination of strong leadership and extensive knowledge in the commercial sector.
The European Tugowners Association (ETA) is a non-profit seeking organisation based in Brussels – Belgium that represents at EU and maritime industry institutional levels the interest of over 80 full time members owning and/or operating some 700 tugboats in over 20 European ports and employing over 8,000 people. Its core objectives are to advance and promote the interests of its members in relation to European legislation and policy in all relevant matters, develop a coherent strategy for the towage industry and maintain an effective internal and external communication flow between its members and pertinent stakeholders.
