On Friday 14th February 2014, Tug Malta’s tug SPINOLA (Bollard Pull – 81 tonnes) was engaged to assist a general cargo vessel which was drifting near Tunis. SPINOLA arrived by the vessel early on Saturday morning.
Tug SPINOLA has assisted to tow the general cargo ship ‘MERLE’ which was in a laden condition with approximately 4,200mt of fertilizer on board. The vessel, although in a seaworthy condition, had main engine problems. The Ship was successfully towed by tug SPINOLA to Valletta Roads, Malta.
On reaching Kalkara creek tug SPINOLA was released and tugs LIENI and SEA SALVOR started operations to tow the vessel into the Grand Harbour at Palumbo Shipyards where it will be undergoing repairs.
